$ grep ll ~/.bashrc
# ~/.bashrc: executed by bash(1) for non-login shells.
    alias ll='ls -l'

I have the following in my .bashrc:

    eval `dircolors`
    alias ls='ls --color=auto '
    alias ll='ls -l'
    alias d='ls --color=auto -atrlp "$@"'
    alias l='ls --color=auto -la "$@"'
    alias la='ls -A'
    alias dir='ls --color=auto --format=vertical'
    alias vdir='ls --color=auto --format=long'

of which 'd' is the one I use most of the time.
