What is the best way to connect to the net in Ubuntu?

It may not be what you are looking for but I just open a terminal and
use
<sudo pppconfig>
<enter password>
and after configuring my connection, use pon and poff to turn the
connection on and off, or use the GKrellM net utility which is just a
button to push for connecting/closing connection.
