Hi,

Recently I had such an issue. I don't know how I created it so reporting
it as a bug was not on.
However this is what I did to restore my sanity.
Logged into a terminal.
- to do this I used the following
-- Ctrl+Alt+F2 (at the same time)
-- logged in using - username password
    -- ls -al .IC*
/************
What I got in return surprised me
-rw------- 1 root root 515 2005-06-20 20:50 .ICEauthority
************/
    -- sudo -s
       -- gave the root password
    -- rm .ICEauthority

Then I exited,
    -- Ctrl+Alt+F2
logged in and happy to log in and out since.

Hope this is of some use.

Regards,
