I only have a b network running and the dwl-122 usb wireless works fine.
The debian ppc list points out some g networks gear that some people
have got working but most of it seems to be along the lines of what you
have said below.

Not that I know of. You could always run a network with an AP off of the
ethernet port, but that would require a power pack and local power point
which kind of defeats the mobile use of wireless :-)
