Just for the sake of customization, and possibly that extra
little bit of performance. I have this dream that one day
some Linux distribution will do a thorough hardware exam on
your machine at bootup, then compile a kernel on the spot
that is customized for precisely your equipment.

This is something that only geeks would want, not most
end-users, so it's probably not consistent with Ubuntu's
marketing. But it's a little dream.
