error on apt-get update

has anyone else noticed that us.archives.ubuntu.com has no packages.gz
file in the depository? This obviously has an adverse affect on update,
and upgrades :) 

I haven't checked all distro (breezy. etc) in all platforms, but the
ones I did check, showed no file.
