Hrm, sounds familiar. I performed a similar operation (installed a k7
kernel-image to see if performance would be better). Next day, the
same as you, Ubuntu stops at showing two empty panels. I still had the
386-image installed, so started using that again. If anyone has a
solution, I'd also be happy to see it :).
