firefox from backports

Hi there,

I have a fresh firefox 1.0.4 from the Backprots, and it does
not let me install *any* extension at all.

When I click a .xpi link from addons.mozilla.org (or locally, wherever),
the usual "Software Installation" window shows up, and after I press
"Install Now", the "Extensions" window comes, but the list is and
remains empty.

On the other hand, plugin installs are working (i.e. Macromedia Flash).

I've tried to remove ~/.mozilla/ and to reinstall firefox, but that
doesn't help.

I also wiped my profile and created a new one, with no results.

Has anyone seen this ?
And is there a way of installing extensions by hand ?

Thanks in advance
