I'm more inclined to do work supporting local Linux
newbies. Having someone hands-on who could support me
throughout the learning process was invaluable to my
learning Linux.

IRC support is fine too, but I suspect that's already
self-limiting your audience to people who are way more
technically proficient than the audience I think we should
be supporting.
