If you downloaded the build from the article, it doesn't work.

I took Leif's suggestion and went http://backports.ubuntuforums.org/ and
found everything there.

I also updated several applications such as gaim by adding that
repository. 

Keep in mind, backports has a disclaimer and one should read it before
using the builds from there.
