Synaptic and update error

Hi

I can't get Synaptic package manager or
Update manager to run this is what I get:

williamwallis at pc-00010:~$
sudo update-manager Password: Reading package lists... Done
Segmentation faulty tree... 0%
williamwallis at pc-00010:~$ sudo synaptic
Segmentation fault

Can somebody tell me how I fix this?
