Cursor Changing

[Tab Gilbert]

Sometimes my cursor turns into a piece of paper with a bracket in the top 
left corner. It looks like a "paste" icon but that does not seem to be its 
function and I did nothing to make it copy. Is it a Ubuntu or a Linux thing? 
I normally just click it some safe area and it goes away. I am not sure 
which book of icons to look in to find what it represents or does.
