Smartd needs to be running in LINUX

Go to /etc/init.d

See if you have  smartmontools.

Also, check for /usr/sbin/smartd.

vram at Aether:/etc/init.d $ ./smartmontools
Usage: /etc/init.d/smartmontools {start|stop|restart|reload|
force-reload}
vramAether:/etc/init.d $ which smartd
/usr/sbin/smartd

Get back to me if this doesn't make sense..
