perl Net::SMTP , Mail::Sender

hello

i am having trouble using the following perl modules
Net::SMTP and Mail::Sender on ubuntu
actually it looks as if something is blocking the connection
  , the scripts just seem to be hanging there trying to connect to the 
server

the same perl scripts work perfectly on macosx

i have also no problem using Net::FTP
or connecting to the mail server using emailclients

anybody got a keen eye on it ?
