Problems with Windows, Gnome, UTF8 and ISO-8859-1

Hi,

I have some files, which have Danish characters in their names on a Windows XP
installation. When I zip these files with Winzip, copy them to a USB-key and
extract them to Ubuntu, the Danish characters are displayed incorrectly in
both Nautilus and the console.

Changing the default character set in Ubuntu from da_DK.UTF-8 to da_DK
ISO-8859-1 actually solves the problem. However, I'm afraid that this might
cause other problems - there must be a reason that Ubuntu uses UTF8.

Any experiences anyone?

Cheers,

Roel.
