Well, if I see CPU jump to 99% for no apparent reason, I tend to dive for a terminal to consult "top" and see which process is misbehaving, then kill it before the machine comes to a grinding halt ;) Here I see this with firefox and java for some reason I haven't yet diagnosed... But at least I know the culprit!
Richard Stallman would say this was poetic justice...
Besides, issuing commands like "killall" and "kill -KILL" is a good way to deflect my aggressions, since I'm a pacifist ;)
