Gnome freezes after session start

I would, from a console, delete ~/.cache directory:
rm -rd ~/.cache

""Failsafe Gnome" it starts without any problems", "the metacity sessions that 
were saved I think" and " I rebooted without a
 proper shutdown" lead me to this conclusion.
