If you've installed the java plugin correctly it should work, except
mayber for the ogg stream, which seems pretty messed up on linux.
However, you don't need java to get their audio stream to work.
We've used each of the following options successfully:
(1) Install RealPlayer for linux. You can download an installer from
Real (http://www.real.com, for x86). Read the installation
instructions, also on the same page. Installation is pretty easy.
Or you can try the instructions here:
http://ubuntuguide.org/#realplayer
If you're using powerpc, you can use the helixcommunity installer:
https://helixcommunity.org/project/showfiles.php?group_id=154
After you install RealPlayer you should be able to play either the
real or shoutcast streams from the 3WK page.
(2) If you're on x86 and you don't mind paying for it, you can install
Codeweaver's Crossover Office, which will allow you to install and run
Microsoft's Windows Media Player:
http://www.codeweavers.com
This will allow you to play the 3WK Window's Media stream.
Personally, I don't recommend doing this if all you want to do is play
streaming media (there are better options), but if you want/need to
run other Windows software on an x86 linux system, this may be worth
doing.
(3) Use mplayer/xine/gxine to play the stream. This is what we
normally do, and it side-steps their web page completely.
You can dig the URI's for the streams out of their HTML code. Here's
one to get you started:
http://shoutcast.3wk.com:7850
For instructions on installing and setting up mplayer/xine, see:
http://ubuntuguide.org
or:
http://amd64.ubuntuguide.org/
http://powerpc.ubuntuguide.org/
Have fun, and if you listen to 3WK a lot, consider signing up for a
membership! They can use the support.
Regards,
Larry
