USB audio

I've made some progress with this. It seems the USB audio was not
present because I had compiled my own sound driver. I've now recompiled
from the ALSA source (from the Ubuntu source repository) including my
sound card and the usb audio and I now get both mixers available to me
in the volume control

The problem I have now is that sound applications seem to only use my
main sound card and I cannot see a way to get them to use the usb audio
system. I think this is because they use /dev/dsp and the usb stuff is
on /dev/dsp1

Any idea how I can switch?

Regards,
Tony.
