The whole point of using a distribution -- and I assume
you're using Ubuntu -- is that you don't need to download
source or binaries from a million and one different websites
in order to install a million and one different packages. If
you're using Ubuntu, just find Apache in Synaptic and
install it, or go to the command line and type
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install apache
Let us know how that goes. If you ever find yourself
needing to play with source code, the odds are overwhelming
that you're not taking the easiest route.
