firefox 1.0.5?

I have been reading these threads!? I am very new and inexperienced to
Linux os's. I have had Ubuntu for about a month and am try to get used
to it. I downloaded firefox1.0.5 and have it working from my desktop,
probably by luck or accident, but cannot get java to work with it. I
understand that the os does not recognise the browser but how do I fix
my problem??
