MD5Sum mismatch on a lot of packages

I was getting these for a while too, but only after I had
burned the ISO images to a CD. Turned out that I didn't have
'burnthrough' -- or some similar name -- turned on.
GnomeBaker has a burnthrough option, as does the global
gconf configuration for the GNOME default CD burner. I
believe all the command-line tools (like cdrecord) also have
a similar option.

My question could be phrased either of two ways:

1) If 'burnthrough' is necessary to properly burn CDs, why
isn't it on by default?

or

2) Wouldn't users know to use 'burnthrough' if it were
instead called by some user-friendly name like "Make The CD
Burner Not Suck"?
