Ruby NOT on Rails / Ubuntu

Hello all!

I'm running Ubuntu 5.04 (hoary hedgehog).

I've installed ruby according to instructions at

http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/RailsOnUbuntuDebianTestingAndUnstable

+ downloaded rubygems, and installed it with ruby setup.rb.

I then proceed to do 

# gem install rails

which works without a hitch.

However, when i try to create a project somewhere with

#rails mopoproject

I get:

    Rails requires Ruby version 1.8.2 (2004-12-25) or later.
    You're running 1.8.2 (2004-12-23); please upgrade to continue.


So... Are there any plans to create a package for rails in the universe
repository? Alternatively - has anybody gotten rails to work on ubuntu?
And written some documentation on how to get it done?

Any answers would be much appreciated.
