Hello fellow Ubunters,

I have an Epson EPL-5900L laserjet printer and I am having a hard time
trying to make it work in Ubuntu.

I have had some experiences with other Linux distros where, in the end,
I've managed to get it to work and I really hope that this will also be
the case with Ubuntu.

The problem with this cheap printer is that it uses some Epson
proprietary language so some driver needs to be installed. I found this
driver via linuxprinting.org as a .rpm package. I've make a .deb out of
it with alien and now, when I try to install it, I get this:

stelu at paradise:~/deb$ sudo dpkg -i epsoneplijs_0.4.0-2_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 64760 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace epsoneplijs 0.4.0-2 (using
epsoneplijs_0.4.0-2_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement epsoneplijs ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of epsoneplijs:
 epsoneplijs depends on libc6 (>= 2.3.2.ds1-21); however:
Version of libc6 on system is 2.3.2.ds1-20ubuntu13.
dpkg: error processing epsoneplijs (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 epsoneplijs

Any idea what can I do in order to be able to install it? I am on Hoary.

Another issue is with ghostscript. Apparently this driver doesn't work
with ghostscript < 8.0 (because of some obscure bug, it seems it's
printing black pages) and:

stelu at paradise:~/deb$ gs --version
7.07.1

I have found some ghostscript 8.0.14 .deb's (made by some person
internal to this epsoneplijs driver project) and the question is how
"safe" is to install them on top of the ghostscript that it is already
installed? Afterwards will I have issues at every apt-get upgrade?

Thanks a lot for any suggestions you might have!

Regards,
