Install Failure/KDE Apps

I tried to install "24009-bioritms.tgz/" and "kbirthday-0.7.3.tar.gz". After 
the install with both files I get 
configure: failed program was:
| /* confdefs.h.  */
I do not think they did a complete install. I cannot locate the progames as 
far as executing them. Am I missing something? Please help.
