Would be a nice thing, but as I don't run an Intel architecture, I guess I can't use this hint.
So it would be nice to have Code compiled Powerpc optimized, but I'm not too sure if this is possible.
My so far experiences are like this:
Xcfewm: Is a nice Windowmanager, but a ugly buggy thing. So currently I'm running it, because it gives a little performance plus. And the applets which messure performance of the system are the best thing about this WM. I like them much more than the gnome applet's, because they are so easy made and give a much better overview.
ICEWM: Wow this WM really gives a performance boost. The main problem is the configuration, I gotto build all menu's,.... from scratch and it doesn't like nautilus too much, but probably the is a good, easy to use and fast alternative to nautilus? But it nearly allows DVD playback without missed frames. But only nearly.
I also noticed that Totem needs more than double of the resources to playback the video's than VLC. I tested this with the same Video. So Totem uses all the CPU-time available, while VLC only needs half of the CPU.
It figures out that CPU time is really the weakest part of my system. It's the only resource that is fully used all of the time. Especially Firefox and Nautilus need a lot of CPU for display needs. I Firefox for example it takes bout 10 seconds of calculation till a page is displayed. In this 10 seconds the CPU is running on full power. So if I manage to cut down CPU usage some more, I'll probably be satisfied.
Thanks a lot for all the replies, I hope this continues,
Rainer
