Hoary - funny terminal

Hi,

Ubuntu users please..

I installed ubuntu hoary 5.4 
It installed easy. Updated it via apt-get and even installed KDE.

>From the beginning " terminal " acted funny...(new to me)

When clicked a pop-up comes up and you have to select " open terminal "
and it happens.

Now it keeps on giving this pop-up .. if you like to play you can
probably open as many as you like..but no terminal.

I un-installed it and re-installed it - still only pop-ups - no terminal.

The root terminal works fine.

Kindly some pointers please to solve the no terminal issue.
