Package: xutils
Version: 6.8.2-10
Severity: normal

sessreg (as called by gdm) appears to be logging random IP addresses to wtmp.

Here is the top of my ~/.xsession-errors file:

/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Sun Jul 10 13:30:29 EST 2005
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/X11/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u
/var/run/utmp -x "/var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0" "cafuego"

And the corresponding output from 'last -d':

cafuego at cabernet:~$ last -d cafuego
cafuego :0 194.135.4.8 Sun Jul 10 13:30 still logged in
cafuego tty1 0.0.0.0 Sun Jul 10 13:29 - 13:34 (00:05)

The system consistently logs 194.135.4.8. I've confirmed this with other Hoary
users; they have the same issue. My Breezy machine exhibits the same behaviour,
but logs more and different random IPs.

I expect the *host_name pointer in sessreg.c in the xorg source is doing wonky
things. I tried having a go at it, but it's messy source at best ;-)
