UBUNTU Live CD

Is there anyway of having the Live CD autodetect configuration settings? 
A friend pointed out to me that the live CD was a bit redicous as you 
need to do allot of configuring to get it going.


P.S. Is it possible for the email list to create a hyperlink from the 
disscussion table to the actuall article. ie.

1. Ubuntu Rocks
2. Ubuntu Kicks arse
3. Ubuntu Rules

Something where I could click on 3 on the index and be taken to the article?
