Subject: Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapters
To: ubuntu-users at lists.ubuntu.com
Hello,
I'm new to this list and to Ubuntu Linux.
I installed version 5.04 on a "Balance" Notebook that
I purchased from Wal*Mart (a lousy implementation of
"Linspire" was installed).
I have a Belkin Pre N Router connected to my DSL but
I'd love to use this new notebook from anywhere in my
apartment.
I purchased a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter
but it doesn't work w/Ubuntu or any other version of
Linux -- sadly, just Micro$oft Windows.
:(
Does anyone know of any drivers for this USB device
and/or any options?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Use ndiswrapper:
1. apt-get install ndiswrapper-utils (if they are not inslatted).
2. put the Windows wireless CD in the tray.
3. Go to the directory where the drivers are located. Suppose the the
driver has a .inf file named belkin.
4. ndiswrapper -i belkin.inf
5. modprobe ndiswrapper.
After the last step, a new network device namde wlan0 should exist. Go
to System/Administration/Network and configure the new interface.
I hope this helps.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks!
:)
