hoary: crafty

Just installed crafty the other day and have a few issues with getting
it to work with xboard and eboard. With xboard, the problem is that
there doesn't seem to be a way to go into the graphical interface first
and then call up crafty, so I typed in the following:

xboard -fcp crafty -fd /usr/games

(/usr/games is the directory where crafty.bin is installed)

When I do and then try to make a move in xboard, it gives me a "error
writing to first chess program: broken pipe" error message. So I never
have been able to play crafty with xboard.

With eboard, there don't seem to be too many options. I can't switch
sides, I can't get crafty to play a specific opening, etc. I presume
there's a way to do this. What does one do? Thanks!

Glad to hear there are some fellow chess/linux geeks out there. I just
installed Ubuntu recently (before that I used Mandrake, Libranet,
Debian, and RedHat at various times), and I think it's by far the best
linux distro. I've seen--user friendly, you have apt-get, etc.
