grub can't write MBR

Hi *

i've installed a lot of ubuntu but the last is very strange:

maxtor 80G with windows Xp on the primary partition
try to install ubuntu on another partition ... all is ok,

grub find Xp but when it try to write the MBR all is red and
it fails ... whyyyyy ?

i've disables bios virus warning
