Installing Free Pascal & Lazarus

Trying to get Free Pascal and Lazarus to install, but have problems with
both! 

The IDE for Free Pascal requires GLIBC_2.3.4 the specific error is: 

< fp: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3.4' not found
(required by fp) >

I can't seem to find glibc 2.3.4 anywhere - where can it be found?

As for Lazarus, I'm trying to convert the RPM to deb using alien
(which I haven't used before) with the command:

sudo alien -d laz*

But I am returned with:

mkdir: cannot create directory `lazarus-0.9.6': Permission denied
chmod: cannot access `lazarus-0.9.6': No such file or directory
find: lazarus-0.9.6: No such file or directory
mkdir: cannot create directory `lazarus-0.9.6/debian': No such file or directory

Any ideas?
