I think this topic is getting a tad overdone dont you think?

Root password is not there to avoid root logins which are a security risk.

When you are in the shell as a normal user (your self) you can always
enter root shell by typing `sudo su`. When I do a lot of admin work
thats what I do, since I don't like typying sudo 100 times a day
before each command. However I see 1000's of brute force attempts on
root and some other common accounts so hence one of the applications
of the disabling root login.

Its a matter of preference (I agree with current choise), if you dont
like it you can always set a root password and be done with it.

Simple!

Move on fellas.
