It would be nice.  IIRC this feature of Gnome is senstive
to the options the drive is mounted with; try adding
the 'user' or 'users' options to the appropriate line in
fstab.  Gnome may need to be restarted.  Unfortunately
not at a Linux box atm so can't check the details.
