LVM on software RAID

Hi all,

I'm trying to do what the subject says: put LVM partitions on SW RAID1
with a standard Warty CD. I have two WD 80GB IDE disks at /dev/hda and
/dev/hdd. Both jumpered for cable select, if it matters. On RH, I'd do
it like this:

* put a small (100MB or so) partition on each of /dev/hda1 and /dev/hdd1
for /boot and /altboot.

* Use the rest of the disk on hda2 and hdd2 (or hd[ad]5) to build a
RAID1 /dev/md0.

* Put a partition of type 8e on /dev/md0. and pvcreate the physical volume

* Make a new volume group with my pv in it.

* Create logical volumes in the vg as I see fit: root, swap, home, whatever.

The RH installer does all this pretty painlessly, but when I try to do
it with Ubuntu I get stuck at the VG stage - an error to the effect that
there are no valid pvs to put in the vg.

What am I doing wrong? The CD is a couple of months old. Would I be
better off with a fresh one? Can I download a Hoary .iso from somewhere?
Or a netinst would be fine. FWIW, I'm having various kinds of trouble
with any install other than "take over all of hda".

TIA
rob
