GRUB Problems

I installed Ubuntu after win XP and the grup menu.lst has the same info
that you posted:
# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for a non-linux
OS
# on /dev/hda1
title Windows NT/2000/XP
root (hd0,0)
savedefault
makeactive
chainloader +1
my hda looks like this:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 1 7 52888+ 6 FAT16
/dev/hda2 8 750 5617080 f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda3 * 751 4368 27352080 83 Linux
/dev/hda5 8 684 5118088+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda6 685 750 498928+ 82 Linux swap
Notice that the grub menu.lst points to the first partition on the HD
not to the NTFS partition on /dev/hda5. The first partition is not my
win XP system but a blank fat16 partition that I thought I would use
sometime in the future.
Hope this helps your dilemma.
