hard disk image transfer

Looking around, I see I have "parted" installed (and Qtparted too) and
reading the man page, this says parted allows you to [...] move and copy
ext2, ext3, linux-swap, FAT and FAT32 partitions. This is useful for
[...] copying data to new hard disks.
I guess this answers me, but being a newbie I wonder what else I must
take into account:
- Must the source and dest devices be the same size?
- Must they happen in the same order on both devices?
I guess both are negative, I just want to check with knowledgeable
people before jumping into an abyss!
Of course I can always try, since the dest HDD is new & empty.
