We really need a mid-level release but we only have stable and never
updated or testing and always broken. Hoary starts out with all of the
absolute most bleeding edge stuff because every package requires other
bleeding edge stuff.
I had forgotten that warty isn't updated except for security updates.
It's a hairy world but since you're a cs person you might do well in
hoary. Just remember that downgrading isn't admitting defeat,
sometimes we have to go back a version number for stability. And
things _will_ break. Nothing that isn't solveable but your xserver
will lose its configuration and shit will start popping out
everywhere; but it's really fun :)
