Writing to USB key

Well I now have my Sony Microvault working fully in ubuntu, both
reading and writing - unfortunately I cant tell what fixed it as it
happened when i upgraded to Hoary this evening, so it is something in
the update that sorted it.
I would still like to know what the problem is, does the live CD use
the same hotplug system as the installed Warty - If so Ill load that
up and fiddle arround till I get it working.
