Root owns my CD-RW's after re-inst. - can't burn

Possible explanation of why some work without sudo and some don't. To
install we have to use sudo, my guess is that in the package that apt
gets the main binary is set suid root or apt automatically sets the
binary suid root.
This isn't surprising but we really need to make sure this isn't
happening, it feels like a violation of admin confidence.
Perhaps what we need to do is define a burner group and put more
effort into making sure that programs are packaged with the binaries
group owned by the burner group. But this also means we would have to
change the init scripts to chown /dev/hdc or whatever.
I hope this helps direct you on what's going on. We know that cdrecord
works but it needs root perms. One of the easiest solutions would be
to set the cdrecord binary as suid root. This is a terrible idea but
it will make your life easy :)
Oli,
