Debian or Ubuntu?

I've just built and installed two desktops - one of them a laptop, and two
servers.
For the desktop, it was a "no-brainer". Ubuntu is very slick. I've got no
opinion about KDE/Gnome, so gnome was fine for me.
I did the servers AFTER the desktops and decided that Debian Sarge was the
way to go. The reasons were:
* Ubuntu is X oriented, and I didn't want X on the servers
* Ubuntu has services as an afterthought (correctly, in my view)
* They are both debian. I'm completely sold on Debian, having tried a few
of the others.
The differences from a practical point of view are slight. I've been told
how hard it is to install Debian, but that's not my experience. The people
who say Debian is hard seem to be the ones who want pretty pictures rather
than function.
I'm now using one of the desktops to test various server functions, and it
wasn't difficult to turn the desktop into a server, so I don't think it's
a big deal. I'm told that running X on a server is a *potential* security
hole, and the axiom applies: if you don't need it, don't run it.
