GNOME trouble

If you have the same behaviour as me then you get an empty menu bar.
Everything seems to work, but none of the nice GNOME graphics is
showing.

I "solve" it by switching to a regular linux console and execute:

 killall nautilus gnome-panel gnome-vfs-daemon trashapplet &> /dev/null

When I switch back to X my desktop is back to being beautiful.
