Where's a good starting point for using Wine?

I need to run Quicken for Windows fairly frequently, and I've
been using Win4Lin with some success in the past.  I'd like
to switch over to wine, to make it easier to rehost the app
as I seem to do fairly frequently.

My first naive attempt was a failure because saving backups
just didn't work right at all.  That scared me.

So: where's a good place to start reading?  Something that
doesn't assume I already know the entire architecture of
the product?
