No, no, NOOOO! The second drive on the first IDE controller is /dev/hdb!
First drive on second controller would be /dev/hdc, second drive on second
controller /dev/hdd. The schema is as follows:
hd [a...n] [1...n]
^ ^ ^
| | |
| | *----- Partition (or empty for the "raw" disk)
| |
| *------ Device/Controller (in pairs, a/b for the first, c/d for the
| second etc. controller).

*----- Type of device: hd for IDE, sd for SCSI etc.
