If you can mount /dev/hda1 without the options you shuld be able to 
mount it even with the rw and umask options

If you reinstall and want to use hda7 as home, remember to chose /home 
as mount point for it during the manual partitioning step. And do also a 
memtest (ubuntu automatically set up an entry for it in grub).
