I hesitate to jump into this. But I feel quite strongly that the list
should be set to Reply-To list. Absolutely every other mailing list I'm
on works this way and I've never seen a negative result from it. The
only potential downside seems to be that non-members do not see replies.
Well, the standard on mailing lists is that non-members cannot post
anyway to keep out the spam. So anyone who wants to post should join
the list and then they will get all the replies.
I use the Thunderbird E-Mail client. It does not have a Reply-To-List
function. I used Eudora for years, that didn't have it. Evolution
doesn't. I suspect that none of the Netscape/Mozilla mail clients have
Reply-To-List. I use Outlook at work (no choice) and that doesn't have
it. That probably covers ninety or ninety-five percent of all the users
of this mailing list. It seems unreasonable to ask everyone to switch
clients just to help out the small minority that do not want to subscribe.
Reply-To-All means that I will get the same message twice when someone
sends an answer. I do not need to get it twice. I just have to delete
another e-mail when that happens. I do that often enough with spam that
it is a pain even though it doesn't take long.
As it stands, when I respond to a message, I have to do a couple of
extra steps by selecting Reply-To-All and then deleting the line to the
original author and changing the list address from Cc to To. I do this
because I don't want two copies and I'm assuming that most other
subscribers feel the same way.
So please consider changing the list manager behavior to set Reply-To
the list.
Just my 2 cents.
