Ubuntu reads, yet won't use modem...

Right,
I just got Ubuntu a few days ago, and finally got in
installed on my old iMac G3 today.
I have tried other distributions of Linux before, but
had had no luck with them.
I thought I would give Ubuntu a try...For you
developers...Ubuntu runs extremely smooth on my iMac
G3!
Now, for the problem. My internal Apple modem blew a
few years back (due to a bad storm) and I bought a
eternal Zoom Technologies Modem (USB). Now when I went
to set up my internet connection, it for some reason
keeps reading the internal modem, and not the external
one.
What should I do about that?
Is there a file I need to edit, so it will ignore my
internal modem?
Thanks,
appleworkitbaby
P.S. Ubuntu DOES read the Modem in the Device section.
Its listed with everything else (Keyboards, Mice,
ect...) Thats why I'm a bit stumped.
