VMware and C header files

Trying to install VMware but am getting stuck on the location of the C
header files.

uname tells me I am running 2.6.8.1-4-386

In /usr/src I have a directory called /linux-headers-2.6.8.1-4-386 but in
response to the VMware setup question:

"What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your
running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]" I specify
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.8.1-4-386 and VMware responds with:

The path "/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.8.1-4-386/include" is an existing
directory, but it does not contain at least one of these directories "linux",
"asm", "net" as expected.

Have I got the wrong files installed?

Thanks for any help
