IDE DMA Blacklist?

Since my upgrade from Warty to Hoary, it seems I have lost my DMA
setting for my CD-R drive.  According to /var/logs/messages, the drive
is:

Dec 31 19:34:58 localhost kernel: hdc: CRD-8480C, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
Dec 31 19:34:58 localhost kernel: hdc: ATAPI 48X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache

And when I try to turn on the DMA setting for it (using "hdparm -d1
/dev/hdc") it seems to be blacklisted:
Dec 31 19:37:47 localhost kernel: hdc: Disabling (U)DMA for CRD-8480C
(blacklisted)

Since I know that DMA works on that drive under Warty, is there a way
to override or modify that blacklist?
